This reference—while it includes many important clues about the Yellowhammer State's earliest residents—often gives scant information about the individuals involved. Only the surnames are mentioned in some instances. In his introduction to this work, Henry Minor wrote: "My only materials for the argument of counsel . . .were the briefs which could be found in the clerk's office." Much of the material covered was written in archaic legalese, and researchers will find a legal dictionary helpful.
