Genealogical Gleanings FromReports of Cases Determined in theSupreme Court of Alabama, 1820-1826This section of our website contains reprints from Henry Minor, Reporter, Reports of Cases Determined in the Supreme Court of Alabama From May, 1820, to July, 1826 (Atlanta: 1891). This referencewhile it includes many important clues about the Yellowhammer State's earliest residentsoften gives scant information about the individuals involved. Only the surnames are mentioned in some instances. In his introduction to this work, Henry Minor wrote: "My only materials for the argument of counsel . . .were the briefs which could be found in the clerk's office." Much of the material covered was written in archaic legalese, and researchers will find a legal dictionary helpful. Please note that we cannot respond to questions about terminology or an explanation of these cases. A recommended reference on the subject is the sixth edition of Henry Campbell Black's Black's Law Dictionary (St. Paul: West Publishing, 1990). Updated 6 January 2005 |
