DEATH OF W. J. CREIGHTON.
This morning at about 6:30 o’clock the spirit of W.J. Creighton passed into the great beyond. In his home at Megargel surrounded by his entire family this gallant old Confederate veteran answered the summons of his Great Commander.
Mr. Creighton was seventy-two years of age) and had lived in Texas for many years. He was a native of Alabama and a member of an Alabama cavalry company during the war. He made his home in Palo Pinto County for more than thirty years, always identifying himself with the development and progress of the county. A few years ago he moved to Megargel where he engaged in the mercantile business with his son, Will.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, Will, Claude, who lives in Lovington, N.M.; Roy, our present city attorney, and a daughter, Mrs. Clara Seawalt, also residing in Lovington, N.M. All of the family were with him in his last hours.
The body will be brought here tomorrow for burial. The services, weather permitting, will be held at the cemetery at 3:30 o’clock by Rev. H. M. Potter and W. W. Howard. If weather is unfavorable the services will be held in the parlors of the Beetham & Son undertaking parlors.
The active pall bearers are: Joel Cranford, T. J. Green, K. McBrayer, John Moyers, Arthur Howard and A.L. Collier.
Honorary pall bearers: C.W. Webb, S. R. Edmonston, M. M. Gill, W. P. Green, H. M. Berry, S. P. Moyers, J. H. Smith and W. H. Mercer.
