No. 1363. William CATHEY, in consideration of 50 Shillings for every 100 acres, granted a tract of land containing 100 acres in the Co. of Buncombe on Oconelufty Creek. Beginning at HOLLAND’s corner white oak and running up the river and said line N 180 poles to a stake thence W 90 poles to a stake then S 180 poles to a stake and thence to the Beginning. Beginning on a white oak standing on the N side of William CATHEY’s Branch said CATHEY’s corner tree and [illegible] with said CATHEY’s line W 164 poles crossing said Branch and the E Fork of Pigeon River to a forked Linn tree on the bank of the W Fork of Pigeon river then up said fork with DIVER’s line S 56 degrees W 30 Poles to a stake on the River bank then up the bank of the river S 10 degrees E 50 poles to a stake on Elijah DIVER’s line then E with DIVER’s line 28 poles to a stake at said DIVER’s corner thence with said DIVER’s line S 146 poles to a white oak then E 52 poles to a stake then N 6 poles to a Spanish oak McPETERS corner. I John STROTHER of the Co. of Beaufort in consideration of the sum of one cent paid by the heirs of Gabriel RAGSDALE and Joseph HENRY who has survey of the land described within this grant by Permission of John Gray BLOUNT since he Entered the same which said BLOUNT titles are vested in me by virtue of the Sherifs Deed. I do for myself my heirs Executors and administrators quit claim and assign over to the said heirs of Gabriel RAGSDALE and Joseph HENRY all my right title and interest in the within described land and premises in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 12th day of Feby. 1799. I Joseph DOBSON of the Co. of Burk nominate and appoint my trusty friend Col. Robert LOVE of Haywood Co. my true and lawful attorney for me and in my name & behalf to [illegible] from John STROTHER or his lawful agent a quit claim deed of conveyance to the whole of his part of the tract whereon Martin BUFF now lives on Richland Creek of Pigeon River Also the said John STROTHER’s quit claim deed to all that part of a tract of land lying on the E side of said Richland Creeke granted to said STROTHER which includes the place whereon John HOWELL now lives. Also a quit claim Deed of conveyance from the said STROTHER for his part of 500 acres granted to the said DOBSON and STROTHER on the S side of Pigeon River which includes the place whereon Jonathan OSBORN now lives except 100 acres of said grant to be laid off next and adjoining to a 200 acre tract of Robert LOVEs which includes the mouth of Richland creek after the said STROTHER or his agent hath given such quit claims to me. I do further authorize and [illegible] my said attorney to convey the lands this quit claimed to me to the said Martin BUFF John HOWELL and Jonathan OSBORN and their assigns the respective tracts of land this quit claim and to each of them Separately to include the places whereon they each lived and I do further authorize and impower my said attorney for me & in my name to quit claim to and assign over to John STROTHER his heirs or assigns any lands which may jointly granted to myself & the said John STROTHER… 5 Apr. 1809. Indenture, 20 Sep. 1807, between Richard MORROW of the Co. of Buncombe and Edward CHASTAIN of Co. aforesaid witnesseth That and for in consideration of the sum of $135 to him the said Richard MORROW paid by the said Edward CHASTAIN at and before the Sealing and signing of these presents the receipt and payment whereof I do hereby acknowledge for myself my heirs do hereby bargain sell and confirm unto him a parcel of land in the Co. aforesaid being as follows 100 acres of land joining the upper end of William BRYSON’s 300 acre tract and the lower end of his own that includes Indian Johns improvement. Which said piece or parcel of land with CALLAWAYs woods waters and Every other appurtenances thereunto beginning or appertaining. I have hereby for myself my heirs Exectors and administrators sold. Indenture, 24 Oct. 1808, between Nathaniel ALMAN of the Co. of Buncombe and Robert MARTIN, for consideration of the sum of $200 paid by said Robert MARTIN whereof Nathaniel ALMAN doth hereby acknowledge and doth by the presents sell alien and convey and confirm unto him the said Robert MARTIN his heirs and assigns a certain parcel of land containing 100 acres situated in the Co. of Buncombe on the waters of Pigeon River adoining Edward PYBURN on the W side. Beginning at this SW corner running his line N 50 poles to a small post or white oak thence W 148 poles to three small hickorys thence S 107 poles to a stake thence E 128 poles to a stake thence W 57 to a hickory thence to the beginning the same being a part of a large tract of land originally granted to David ALLISON for 250,240 acres of which said tract of land was sold by James HUGHEY high Sheriff of Buncombe aforesaid to satisfy the public and county tax for the year 1796 as will more fully appear by the said Sheriffs deed to John STROTHER therefor (which deed beares date 29 Sep. 1798 and is Registered in the Registers office of Buncombe Co. aforesaid 29 Dec. 1798. Indenture, 31 Oct. 1808, between Benjamin PARKS of Co. of Buncombe and Jessee McFARLAND of the same Co. The said Benjamin PARKS in consideration of the sum of $90 paid by said Jessee McFARLAND the receipt whereof is here by acknowledged have granted Bargained sold a certain tract or parcel of land in the Co. of Buncombe on the Ravins fork above Jacob MINGUS including the place called Plumb orchard. The said tract of land above mentioned was Granted to the said Benjamin PARKS by Patent bearing date 27 Nov. 1807. Benjamin PARKS {Seal}. Witnesses: Felix WALKER Jurat and Jacob MINGUS. I John STROTHER of the Co. of Rutherford in the State of Tennessee in consideration of the sum of $20 paid by William ALLEN of the Co. of Haywood in the State of North Carolina doth quit my claim to the said William ALLEN his heirs and assigns to all that part of a tract of 640 acres of land granted by the State of North Carolina to Joseph DOBSON and the said John STROTHER bearing date 19 Dec. 1804 which is bounded as follows: Beginning at black oak the beginning corner of the aforesaid tract of 640 acres and also of a tract of 610 acres in the Name of the aforesaid John STROTHER whereon Wm CATHEY now lives. 5 Jun. 1809. Indenture, 18 Aug. 1808, between John WILSON of the Co. of Lincoln in the State of North Carolina and Robert PENLAND of the Co. of Buncombe and state aforesaid. The said John WILSON for and in consideration of the sum of $800 to him paid by the said John WILSON doth hereby acknowledge hath given granted bargained and sold unto the said Robert PENLAND his heirs and assigns forever all that tract and parcel of land lying in the Co. of Buncombe on Crystal Creek the waters of Pigeon river. Beginning on a large Chestnut and runs N 45 deg. W 100 poles to Robt. HENRY’s chestnut corner. John WILSON. Witnesses: Wm. MEHAFFEY Jurat and I HOWARD. Registered in Haywood Co., 15 Aug. 1809.

I Richard MORROW of the above county in consideration of the sum of $200 to me in hand paid by Elijah CHASTAIN of the Co. aforesaid having granted bargained sold & released unto the said Elijah CHASTAIN a certain tract of land in said county lying on both sides of [illegible] fork of the Tucky [illegible] adjoining & above his tract wherein he lives. 30 Sep. 1807. Indenture, 6 Apr. 1809, between John STROTHER of the Co. of Buncombe and Robert LOVE of the Co. of Haywood. In consideration of the sum of $100 paid by said Robert LOVE, the said John STROTHER sells unto him a parcel of land containing 200 acres in the Co. of Haywood on the waters of Richland Creek. Beginning at a stake where the CHAMBERS old line intersects my own and John DAVIDSON’s 200 acre Survey on the NW side of said Creek near a Brick Yard and runs N with CHAMBERS old line [now?] John WELCHES 160 poles to a stake then S crossing several branches 160 poles to a stake from thence to the beginning. The same being part of a large tract originally granted to David ALLISON for 250, 240 acres which said tract of land was sold by James HUGHEY Sheriff of Buncombe Co. John STROTHER {Seal}. Indenture, 27 Jun. 1809, between John WELCH and Robert LOVE and Thomas LOVE, all of Haywood Co. The said John WELCH in consideration of the sum of $600 paid by said R & Thomas LOVE conveyed a parcel of land in Haywood Co. on both sides of Richland Creek. Haywood Co., I Edward HAYES appoint my trusty friend James WELCH of the said Co. my true and lawful attorney for me and in my name to ask for and receive from the State of Georgia my legal bounty land for doing servises as a common soldier two years and six months under the Command of Gen. John CLARK in said State of Georgia and further my said Attorney is hereby authorized to take and persue all legal means and methods to procure from the sd. Indenture, 21 Nov. 1808, between Joseph DOBSON of Burke Co. and Jacob SHOOK of Buncombe Co. The said Joseph DOBSON in consideration of the sum of $450 paid by the said Jacob SHOOK, conveyed a tract of land lying in Buncombe Co. on the SW side of Pigeon River. A State grant to Joshua WILLIAMS dated 7 Jul. 1794, No. 87, deeded to said Joseph DOBSON 7 Oct. 1864. Joseph DOBSON {Seal}. Witnesses: Benjmain ODILL, Jurat, and Ro. LOVE. Indenture, 4 Aug. 1803, between Spencer RICE and John BELLAH, both of Buncombe Co. In consideration of $100, Spencer RICE conveyed a parcel containing 70 acres more or less lying in the aforesaid Co. on the waters of Pigeon River and on the eastside bounded by lands of said RICE, William CATHEY, Junior, and MEHAFFEY. The said BELLAH now lives the same part of a tract of land the said RICE purchased from John STROTHER. Spencer RICE {Seal}. Witness: James LEEPER and Robert JONES. Indenture, 6 Apr. 1809, between John STROTHER of Buncombe Co. and Robert LOVE of Haywood Co. In consideration of the sum of $250 paid by said Robert LOVE, the said John STROTHER conveys a parcel of land containing 317 acres lying in Haywood Co., on the waters of Richland Creek. Beginning at a small oak near a marked Hickory on the side of a ridge and runs N 220 poles to a white oak on a ridge which stands W 60 poles from Joseph TURNER’s corner then W 108 poles to a locust 12 poles S of Richland Creek in a line of CHAMBERS survey now said LOVE’s land there with said line S crossing two branches 190 poles to a white oak on a ridge Corner to CHAMBERS survey then W with the other line of the CHAMBERS survey 68 poles to a stake where said line intersects the line of a tract of 200 acres survey. Granted to sd. LOVE & John DAVIDSON & with sd. line 98 poles to a hickory corner to sd. tract then with said line W over 145 poles crossing CHAMBERS Creek to a small hickory then E passing a hickory Corner to the FURGUSES survey at 15 poles Crossing CHAMBERS Creek 195 poles to a stake and from thence to the beginning. The same being part of a large tract of land originally granted to David ALLISON for 250,240 acres which said tract of land was sold by James HUGHEY high Sheriff of Buncombe Co., aforesaid to satisfy the public and Co. tax due for the year 1796. No. 1432. In consideration of the sum of 50 Shillings for every 100 acres hereby granted unto Thomas JONES, a tract of land containing 100 acres in Buncombe Co. on both sides of SCOT’s Creek. Beginning on a locust and walnut pointers then S 26 poles to a stake then E 179 poles to a stake then N 90 poles to stake then W 179 poles with William STILES line. 28 Nov. 1805. J. TURNER. Indenture, 13 Jan. 1808, between George CUNNINGHAM and Amos BROWN, both of Buncombe Co., in consideration of the sum of $110 paid to the said CUNNINGHAM by the said Amos BROWN. The said George CUNNINGHAM conveys a tract of land lying in the aforesaid Co. and situated on a fork on the N side of the Main Creek and including both sides of the fork of SCOTT’s Creek. Beginning on a black oak thence with a line of John FURGUS N 10 W 42 poles to a stake thence S to E with or near SHROER’s C!] line 52 poles to a stake thence to the beginning of the same being part of a tract land granted by the State to Daniel McDOWEL and conveyed by him to me George CUNNINGHAM the part of said tract containing 36 acres the original being dated 10 Dec. 1804. Indenture, 12 Apr. 1806, between Jacob MINGUS and Amos BROWN, both of Buncombe Co., in consideration of the sum of $200 paid to said Jacob MINGUS, who conveys a tract of land in aforesaid Co. to BROWN situated on SCOTT’s Creek. Beginning on a white oak corner of Joseph DOBSON of the N side of the Creek. Jacob MINGUS {Seal}. Witness: John YOUNG, acknowledged, and John LEATHERWOOD. Registered in Haywood Co., 20 Oct. 1809.

Pages 39-40. I William McCONNELL of Buncombe Co. for the sum of $425 have sold unto David SCROGGS of the Co. aforesaid a tract of land in the said Co. on the waters of CRABTREE Creek of Pigeon River. The same being Granted to three different persons viz: 22 acres to Hugh DAVIDSON and 57 to HENRY and RAGSDALE and the balance of the said to ALLISON and conveyed by the Sheriff of Buncombe Co. to John STROTHER and by him to the said William McCONNELL containing 200 acres. 13 Jan. 1807. Indenture, 3 Aug. 1804, between Nathan DIVER of Buncombe Co. and David McDOWEL. In consideration of the sum of $100 paid by said David McDOWEL to him, the receipt is hereby acknowledged, hath sold unto the said Daniel McDOWEL all that tract or parcel of land containing 100 acres in the Co. of Buncombe on both sides of CRABTREE Creek of Pigeon River the same being the E end of a certain tract of land originally Granted to John McDOWEL. Indenture, 6 Jul. 1809, between Adam KILLIAN of the Co. of Haywood and Thomas C.
